Stewardson Way Crosswalk: Elmer
Rudolph reported that there has been little progress toward implementing the
plan to place a crosswalk across Stewardson Way to provide access to River
Drive. Money has been set aside but Translink
is reluctant to proceed but no
reason was given. An update will be provided at the WERA November Annual
General Meeting.
1407 Sixth Ave - HRA
Development and Subdivision Application:
The
lot is 66 feet wide with an old house (built in 1901), the house is in poor
condition but will be restored. The intent is to divide the property and build
a second house. The city will be removing a lane allowance at the back of the
property.
Official Community Plan:
Elmer
Rudolph provided an update on the Official Community Plan. There will be a
meeting on October 17 for community representatives and a bus tour of areas
where various types of densification have been implemented.
The
city website states that “A series
of public events will be held in the fall that explore the results of the
research with the community”.
ActBiPed Report by Mary
Wilson:
Mary reported on concerns about
pedestrian safety at unmarked sidewalks, very intersection is considered to
have unmarked sidewalks but there are vehicle drivers who are not aware of, or
who do not respect this fact. Mary is particularly interested in providing
better pedestrian access across 10th avenue to Burnaby and the
shopping area around Highgate. A crossing at 18th street at 10th
avenue would be desirable. There will be a tour of the area by representatives
of the ActBiPed committee.
Meeting
adjourned at: 8:40 p.m.
Next
meeting: Tentatively Tuesday September 22, 2015 at Unity in Action Church from

Reports
of property crime showed an overall 15 to 20 percent reduction, the greatest
reduction was in the west end and at Skytrain stations. There was an increase
of 10 to 12 percent increase in robberies and assaults, uttering threats and harassing
communications. There was a homicide in the west end but there is no recent
information. There was a major motor vehicle accident on the Pattullo bridge involving
32 vehicles. There was a shooting in Queensborough that was reported to be
targeted. The New Westminster police department has released a smartphone app
