Approval of minutes of previous meetings: Motion to approve minutes of September 27, 2016, moved by Gavin McLeod seconded by Heather MacKenzie.
Additional Agenda Items:
Response to the recent city OCP open houses concerning the latest land use proposals: At the February 16 community meeting of reps, there was discussion on the densification around the 22nd street SkyTrain station including high rises and mid rises. Also mentioned was the availability of 15 minute appointments with a city planner concerning laneway houses. OCP (Our City 2041) design details on city website in April.
Neighbourhood Traffic Advisory Committee Report (Gavin McLeod): Reported on the Community Policing Committee meeting of March 16, 2017. There was an overall reduction in calls for service across the city except for the west end which had an increase of 16 percent. Most crime categories showed a decrease except for theft of auto (10 percent increase) and business related crimes (16 percent increase).
ActBiPed Committee (Mary Wilson): The committee will focus on sustainable transportation with pedestrian travel as a priority. There was a report on crosswalks one dozen crosswalks in city to be described and photographed.
Walkers Caucus Website (Mary Wilson): The website was created to provide information on walking and to advocate for walkers in New Westminster (www.walkerscaucus.ca). Walk New West will be a joint program with Fraser Health and the School Board, registration ends early in April, the promotion runs from April 3 to the end of May.
Jane’s Walk 2017 (Mary Wilson): Jane’s walks will take place on May 5, 6 and 7 there is expected to be an increased number of walks available (http://janeswalk.org/canada/new-westminster). One of the walks will be to Highgate via Eighteenth Street and 10th ave to point out the lack of access across 10th Ave.
